Detox is for substance abuse. Period. If reader has been to detox then 'drinking' is a problem, heavy or not, period.
Abstain or you die miserably. Detox is just a stoplight.
Is life better without alcohol? You need to ask?!

You are going to be ok, I promise. I know how heavy these feelings weigh in your head, but you can find a way to get peace of mind. Like me, you might be using Alcohol to get rid of these heavy thoughts and feelings, and it will work at certain times, but compounds the depression without doubt.
Some of us, without knowing, have actual 'Physical' discrepancies in our brains that don't provide us with the correct distribution of chemicals to create a normal mood. This is a very common condition and can easily be corrected with the right medication and medical support.
Now don't go thinking that this is something that makes you mentally unhitched or anything like that, you are just fine, unfortunately you might this type of chemical imbalance that you will never get corrected without these meds. I take them, and they don't have any side affects, all they do is correct my chemical imbalance and give me the chance to live with my peace of mind.
Back to Alcohol. Drinking this stuff will only disrupt the chemical problem more, and you will notice it more 'After' it leaves your system. Thoughts are going to be at their deepest and darkest after alcohol has just left your brain. I have written a little about my experiences with this problem and would hope you might like to read it. Just copy http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/119207/alcohol_the_transformation_begins.html and have a look. You are not alone my friend. The names of my articles are, Alcohol, the Transformation Begins, and Alcohol, the Urine of Satan. Feel free to contact me.

Stop drinking man you have what is refered to as "Alcohol induced hyper tension" you are affected by alcohol more than most people. It's nothing to be imbarrassed about but you probably should not drink

when i was in my teens, twenty's i drank quite at lot, mostly at week-ends, party's and such like ,but never alcohol dependent. then i found myself a one parent family .rather naughty in the 70,s but i was in a new town with not many friends and little family around me. i knew i enjoyed a drink but refused to keep any in the house as i did not in a depressed moment wish to leave my young baby at risk.now in my 50,s i only drink at weddings etc, and i really don,t miss it.

congartaulations to all who are successfully fighting a battle with alcohol. I'm not condoning drinking, but it sounds to me like there might be another problem. You should talk to a doctor or therapist along with cutting the alcohol out.

don't know what you mean by "heavy drinker" (maybe you only weigh 150lbs.?? lol.. just kidding) but i relate to what you say about affecting you for a week. I am an alcoholic and had stopped drinking from Jun 2003 to Jun 2005 when one hot sweaty thirsty day, i decided to start with the beer again.
well, i really enjoyed it for months without too much (still was not really feeling great) problems. but of course it increased until recently , being up to 12 to 14 beers a day for months.. i tried to quit and went through real bad feeling... REAL tired and around noon had these real bad , hard to describe,
sick feelings, just horrible... today is my 5th day of abstinence and i still don't feel well... i feel better however which makes me want to continue on this sober path. For anyone trying to quit after months of 12 beers (perhaps less, everyone is diff)
i would just tell you to be willing to be uncomfortable , sometimes very uncomfortable for days to weeks afterwards.
Good luck to all who are going thru this... if and when i do feel healthy again (who knows?)... when the hot thirsty days come again... i will need to find another way..do not want to do this damn thing again! God bless.

OF COURSE!! I started drinking when I was 38 years old. And when I noticed It was affecting Me I quit, and was a better person for it. You really sound like you need to talk to a level headed person, it sounds like you may have some personal issues you're not dealing with. We're all honest people by nature, maybe you should do some soul searching. quit drinking. I preach this to my kids, If it becomes a burden, don't carry it, let it go. I like to drink, but I CAN'T let I affect me, or my family. That's just WRONG!. I wish you well.

Generally speaking - one drink takes one hour for the body to metabolize. So I am thinking that something else is going on. Of course if you are drinking a drink with alot of different types of liqueur in it - than I guess you get to multiply by how many different liqueurs are in it. From the way you say it affects you-it doesn't sound like its worth it for you to drink at all.
